The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command.…Hebrews 1:3 (NLT)
My Momma passed away at the age of 56 years young. The reason for death on her death certificate is recorded “Due to natural causes”. The real reason for her death was a horrific disease that destroyed her dignity, stole her health and snatched her life prematurely. After her death when my angry fist couldn’t pound out the answer to the “Why? How could you let this happen, God?” questions, I gave up believing that God wants his children healed. That is until our son was born with health challenges and the scab of the “Why?” and “How?” questions was ripped off. I began scouring the Scriptures for answers.
In this and subsequent blogs, I will share my findings. It is my greatest desire to see the stripes and sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ manifested in our bodies, emotions, hearts and minds. That we, the body of Christ, carry the revelational understanding of God’s will in the Son and live in continual divine health until our race is run, our mission is complete or until Jesus comes back again.
In the three plus years of his ministry, Jesus healed all who came, called out or sent someone on their behalf for healing. There are several scriptures that specifically state that Jesus healed ALL who were sick and oppressed. (Matt 4:24, Matt 8:16, Matt 9:35, Matt 12:15, Matt 14:35-36, Mark 6:56, Luke 4:40, Luke 6:18-19, Acts 10:38)
We can see in John 5:19-20 Jesus explaining His great works.
Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these, so that you will be amazed.” (NIV)
Two other passages in the book of John quote Jesus describing his motive behind his ministry inclusive of his great works of healing and deliverance.
John 6:38 “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.”
John 14:31 “but so that the world may know that I love the Father, I do exactly as the Father commanded Me.”
Jesus was simply obeying the Father when he healed the sick, raised the dead, cleansed the leapers and cast out demons. In so doing, he clearly represented the Father’s will and desire that ALL should be healed and delivered from all oppression.
If Jesus healed all who were sick and oppressed because he was obeying the will of the Father, and he is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8) do you believe God desires us to be healed and healthy today?
Next week we will take a deeper dive into the healing ministry of Jesus. Until then, take a look and meditate on Isaiah 53:5. Here it is in the New Living Translation:
But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.
